Despite the recent growth projections for the island, Barbados has been told its recovery hinges on how the country handles the COVID-19 pandemic and manages its tourism industry.
Senior Economic Advisor to Government, Dr. Kevin Greenidge says the economy remains depressed as it was also impacted by Hurricane Elsa and the ashfall from the La Soufriere volcano.
Dr. Greenidge was a guest on CBC TV8’s Morning Report.
Dr. Greenidge says the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation or BERT programme has ensured Barbados has a strong fiscal position.
Citizens and businesses have also benefited from the two sub programmes, the Barbados Optional Saving Scheme (BOSS) and the Barbados Employment and Sustainable Transformation (BEST).
He also updated the country on efforts to recapitalise the unemployment fund of the National Insurance Scheme.
