Minister of International Business and Industry, Ronald Toppin says his Ministry is pursuing measures to double the export earnings of the local manufacturing sector by the year 2030.
He made the comment during the virtual launch of BMEX 2021.
It’s being held under the theme ‘Resilience and Growth Via Adaptation’.
Minister Toppin says at present the local manufacturing sector accounts for over $500 million in foreign exchange earnings through domestic exports.
Mr. Toppin says while the COVID-19 pandemic has rattled some global supply chains important to Barbados, that is another area where they are seeking to improve.
He says the resilience we talk about must be seen in our supply chains, and he has therefore asked for an accelerated search for additional sources of raw materials for the manufacturing sector.
