Efforts are underway to find a permanent solution to problems with discoloured water from the Barbados Water Authority’s Bowmanston plant.
That situation is a concern for several residents in St. Philip, St. George and St. John.
Director of Engineering at the BWA Charles Leslie has disclosed the Authority will be initiating a project in the next three months to fix the problem.
Mr. Leslie tells CBC News several long term recommendations have been made after consultations with local and international consultants about the discolouration of the water.
He says they have identified two areas where the silt is entering the water catchment and creating the problems and these are being addressed.
Mr. Leslie says a multi-pronged approach has been identified to address the situation and contracts are about to be signed.
He says in the meantime the BWA is making adjustments to bring water from neighbouring systems into the affected areas.
He’s also dismissed suggestions they shut off water from the Bowmanston plant every time there’s heavy rainfall.
