The Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources is encouraging people seeking to register vehicles to ensure they have the proper documentation to do so.
Acting Principal State Counsel in the Ministry, Jared Richards says this is especially important in cases where the former owner has died.
In that case, he says, the seller should either provide the purchaser with certified copies of the will and death certificate, and the relevant transfer letter.
However, the situation is a little different if there is no will.
Mr. Richards says it is in the interest of the buyer to ensure they know the true owner of the vehicle, and as such can ask for specific documentation like the registration card.
He says ultimately, people who have questions about vehicle registration can contact the Barbados Licensing Authority for any information.
