A reduction in the number of unregistered vehicles on the island’s roads is among the expected benefits of the electronic vehicle registration system.
So says Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources, Dr. Romel Springer.
According to him, there are an estimated 30,000 unregistered vehicles on the road.
If a vehicle is unregistered or without an RFID tag, EVR cameras will photograph the vehicle’s licence plate, and the registration status of the vehicle will be verified.
Dr. Springer was speaking during a BLP St. James North branch meeting.
He believes the surveillance system will also decrease the need for police to do physical checks.
