Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Indar Weir has called on the management of Pinnacle Feeds to justify the recent hike in the price of animal feeds, as international grain prices have actually been trending downward in recent times.
He is however suggesting any hike in the price of meat and poultry products will only be felt by consumers three to four weeks from now, given the volume of feed already in stock.
Minister Weir notes that in the meantime, Government will be working closely with farmers and other stakeholders like Pinnacle Feeds, to wherever possible reduce operating costs, with the hopes that resulting benefits will be passed on to the consumer.
He says his Ministry will be doing a cost-benefit analysis to determine what is the best way to address this situation.
