Focus on integrity in public life

April 3, 2023

More investigations are expected under a new suite of legislation to track down any corrupt official holding public office.

That promise from the Attorney General, Dale Marshall.

Outlining steps being taken, he revealed it sees a return of the Integrity in Public Life Legislation, which was previously defeated in the Senate.

He is optimistic about a different outcome this time around and highlighted some of the other steps being taken to hold civil servants accountable.

The AG shared the details during a regional training workshop on Anti-Corruption and Misconduct in Public Office at the Raddison Aquatica.

So why is investigating corruption in public office here so difficult, to the point where Barbados has never seen such a case?

Attorney General Marshall answered that question.

The Attorney General also commented on the Donville Inniss saga.

The former government minister was recently released from jail in the United States on money laundering charges after serving a two-year prison term.

Mr. Marshall went on to say prosecutors and other investigative officials need more tools and practice to beef up their ability to deal with cases of corruption.
