Four Police officers have been awarded for their meritorious service.
In a short ceremony at the Police Headquarters Boardroom today, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sylvester Louis continued an initiative he started with the inaugural “Sylvester Louis Plural Book Prize.”
This initiative, now in its second year, recognises and rewards police officers who have performed creditably above and beyond the call of duty.
Four officers from the Holetown Police Station, Constable 1768 Jason Leacock, Constable 2137 Kevin Griffith, Constable 2230 Darrel Babb and Constable 2195 Adrian Clarke, were all recognised for their outstanding work on May 19th, 2022 in the apprehension of suspect Dave Antonio Husbands. He was wanted in connection with several serious criminal matters.
Around 3:00 pm on the 19th, the police officers were on patrol duty in the Fitts Village, St. James area when they encountered the suspect. He attempted to evade capture, but the officers pursued him and he was apprehended. He was subsequently charged in connection with twenty burglaries and two thefts that occurred in the parishes of St. James and St. Peter, between March 6th and May 11th, 2022. He later appeared at the Holetown Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five (5) years in prison.
Assistant Commissioner Louis presented each officer with a book, lauding their outstanding work and commending them for being a credit to the Barbados Police Service. He reiterated that the goal of the initiative was to encourage other police officers to strive to emulate the excellence of the officers honoured today.
Assistant Commissioner Louis says the initiative will continue to be used as a tool to assist with the development of police officers by encouraging them to read widely on a variety of topics.
