The usual hustle and bustle of pedestrian and vehicular traffic through the junction of Tudor Street and Swan Street in The City came to a screeching halt this morning.

That’s because a report was made about a suspected gas leak in the area.

As a result police and fire officials cordoned off the area, as officials from the National Petroleum Corporation (NPC) carried out their investigations.

Pedestrians and motorists therefore had to seek alternate routes to get to their respective destinations, while some businesses in the area were directly affected by the cordoned area.

Acting General Manager Ian Bradshaw gave CBC News an update.

Mr. Bradshaw adds that the NPC will continue to monitor the situation and carry out checks.

Meanwhile, Fire Officer Shaniqua Charles said they responded to the scene under the direction of Leading Fire Officer Clarke.
