METRIC SYSTEM BARBADOS NATIONAL STANDARDS INSTITUTE CBC NEWS

Weights and measures in Barbados will be strictly metric shortly when new legislation is introduced.

Director of the Barbados National Standards Institute, Hadyn Rhynd, in an interview with CBC News said the changes must come in the interest of international trade and that is why a Metrology Act was needed.

The legislation is long over due since the Weights and Measures Act dates back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when simple measures were used.

However, international standardisation, which is digital, was needed now, he explained.

He said there will be training to help with the transition to a fully metric system of weights and measurements.
