By next week scores of the sugar industry workers at the two privately owned companies, the Agricultural Business Company (ABC Ltd), and the Barbados Energy and Sugar Company (BESCO Ltd.) should have received all of their outstanding severance payments.
Word of this from Deputy General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, Dwaine Paul.
He says this follows successful talks with the company’s management as well as the Chairman of the Barbados Agricultural Management Company (BAMC).
Mr. Paul considers this the start of doing right by the many hard-working employees within the industry.
Mr. Paul says with contracts for full-time employment on the horizon he is positive that it will empower workers to become owners and as a consequence help to reshape the industry.
