Gov’t enhancing QEH’s operations

March 6, 2024

An amendment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Act that allows for the abolition of the position of executive chairman has cleared the Lower House of Parliament.

The previous post of chief executive officer is being re-established as a result.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Health Davidson Ishmael says the amendment will have a significant impact and value as Government continues to improve and enhance the operations and service delivery within the QEH.

Mr. Ishmael says the QEH is an institution that remains critical to the infrastructure of Barbados as he applauded all staff at the hospital.

He admits often times the facility receives negative commentary noting officials are not blind to the challenges it has to address.

Leader of the Opposition Ralph Thorne raised concern saying the amendment to the QEH Act 2024 would enfranchise a single individual.
