Government is looking to acquire seven parcels of land in Work Hall, St.Philip totalling four acres of land to regularise informal housing settlement.
Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance Dwight Sutherland, in the Lower House yesterday, spoke of the squatting and being cut off from good infrastructure.
He says they are working-class citizens and in an effort to give them affordable and resilient housing they have capped the price of land.
However, he pointed out that this figure is still high, so they are selling the land at the freehold tenantries price.
Minister Sutherland again defended Government’s position to provide housing options for squatters despite some public opposition.
