Incinerator smoke causes early closure of school

Smoke from the incinerator at the Grantley Adams International Airport forced the early closure of a St. Bartholomew Primary School.

Now the airport’s management and education officials are working to resolve the environmental issue.

Joining us this evening to provide some details as to exactly what happened is First Vice President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Julian Pierre, who is also the head of the union’s health and safety committee.

GAIA’s Corporate Communications Specialist Charlene Browne says they are taking the concerns expressed very seriously.

She says GAIA wants to comprehensively address the issues.

The Ministry of Education is also involved in seeking a solution to the problem.

Communications Consultant Gaynelle Marshall says a representative from the Ministry visited the school today to collate information on the ongoing issue.
