In the coming weeks Barbadians can expect to pay more for meat.
That prediction from Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul.
It comes on the heels of an announcement from Pinnacle Feeds Limited that it will be increasing the price of livestock feeds effective Tuesday, May 3rd.
In a release the company says it was forced to make the decision because of the crisis in Ukraine, with Kyiv and Russia responsible for supplying approximately one-third of the world grain.
Reacting to the news, the BAS boss says the price hike for feed should come as no surprise as the warning signs were there.
He explains why it would not be unreasonable to expect that farmers will now have to increase their prices as well.
