Barbados has told the Organisation of American States the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade lives on, contributing to the marginalisation of communities and persons of African descent.
The view was shared by Interim Representative of Barbados to the OAS Christobelle Reece during a special meeting of the permanent council to commemorate the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
She says studies and findings have shown people of African descent still have limited access to quality education, health services, housing and social security.
She told the forum insufficient and respect is often given to the efforts of people of African descent who seek redress.
