A local musician, community activist and youth advocate has been named this year’s Republic Bank ‘Be the One’ champion.

That win has earned Kevin ‘Sluggy Dan’ Watson $2500 to help with his various community projects.

Nine people nominated him for the Be the One Community Competition, an initiative started in Trinidad and Tobago that was adopted in Barbados in 2019.

Mr. Watson is the Chief Executive Officer of New Jack Entertainment and Co-creator of the Youth in the Spotlight programme.

Last year, during the lockdown period, he created the popular Stan’ Home Sing Off Competition with support from the National Cultural Foundation.

The online competition gives young artistes much needed exposure, and weekly winners walked away with $500.

Speaking to the Business Report, Mr. Watson said he is humbled by the win.

Meantime, Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications at Republic Bank, Sophia Alsopp has praised Watson’s work.
