The impact of long COVID cases in Barbados is under the microscope of the Medical Sciences Department of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill.
While actual COVID-19 cases are not as high at this time, the effects the virus has had on those who contracted it are being studied.
Deputy Dean, of Recruitment and Outreach, Dr. Kenneth Connell, told the Morning Report that those who were severely affected are more likely to develop long COVID-19.
Dr Connell notes the phenomenon is not new in medicine.
According to him, this may result in more patients presenting themselves with symptoms.
He says suspected cases of long COVID-19 must be measured and Barbadians and the healthcare sector made more aware of the symptoms.
