Barbados, on this World Health Day, is celebrating the public health successes which have improved the quality of life over the last seven decades.
Notable achievements made by Barbados include the island’s first health care centre which was established in Speightstown in 1955; the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital; and more recently, the national COVID-19 response programme.
World Health Day is being observed under the theme, “Health For All’.
Today is also important to the World Health Organisation (WHO), as it observes its 75th anniversary.
The WHO is recognizing its achievements under the theme, “75 Years of Improving Public Health”.
WHO Chief, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, in commemorating the day, shared the strides made in the area of health globally over the years.
