There is a call for important issues related to mental health to be introduced from the primary school level, to help impart important information and knowledge at the earliest possible stage.
It is coming from consultant psychiatrist Dr. Joy Sue, who was a guest on CBC’s current affairs programme ‘The People’s Business’ on Sunday evening. The focus was on mental health, including recent cases of suicide that have impacted families across the island.
Dr Sue also notes the existing laws surrounding mental health are outdated when compared to other territories. Clinical psychologist, Reverend Dr. Marcus Lashley, also weighed in on the issue of mental health legislation.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sue also believes a dedicated suicide hotline must be established as a priority. She says it can be Government or private sector led.
