Mural unveiled at Springer Memorial School

A large and colourful mural depicting the movement of people from the African continent, telling the story of slavery has been unveiled at the Springer Memorial School.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight says the mural comes amid calls from the public for the youth to be educated about their history and culture.

She sees a role for culture and the arts in building education and awareness.

The project, was approved by the Office of Reparations and Economic Enfranchisement, was undertaken by a three brother team, Santrio Creative, who teamed up with artist, Leann Clarke.

Nikolai Charles of Santrio Creative says the team undertook research and listened to lectures on reparations before completing the project.

Work was undertaken on some 20 concrete boards and then installed on the wall at Springer.
