New Master of the High Court sworn in

Dr. Coralita Babb-Schaefer is ready to take on her new role as Master of the High Court.

She took the oath of office this morning in the presence of President of Barbados, the Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason at State House.

The Supreme Court of Judicature Act, Cap. 117A was amended in 2006 to make provision for a Master of the High Court.

The Master has the power and authority of a judge sitting in Chambers.

These include the power to grant an injunction.

Attorney-at-law Roger Barker recently took the oaths before the acting President, the Very Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Gibson, at State House.

Dr. Babb-Schaefer says she is excited to serve Barbados.

Acting Chief Justice Francis Belle expects Babb-Schaefer will give of her best to assist in addressing the backlog.
