A new initiative has been rolled out in an effort to get more children to read.
It’s called Reading for Children and was introduced in St. James South today.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Business and Member of Parliament for the area Sandra Husbands says the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt a serious blow to children.
She says with the assistance of the Barbara Bellamy Reading Club, the Cutting Edge Community Group, parents and volunteers they are helping to sharpen children who may have fallen behind.
Thirty-five children between the ages of 4 and 12 years have registered for the programme at the Gospel Lighthouse Church.
Minister Husbands says they are hoping to expand the reading programme across the St. James South constituency.
