Official handing over for new BDF Chief of Staff

Errington Shurland has officially taken over as Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force.

Shurland, the first Coast Guard officer to lead the military, replaces predecessor Colonel Glyne Grannum.

He took over command during a brief ceremony at the BDF’s St Ann’s Fort headquarters this morning.

Shurland, whose appointment was approved by the Defence Board, has been promoted from the rank of Captain to Commodore — the second-highest attainable rank for a Barbados Coast Guard officer.

Commodore Shurland has more than three decades of service in the military and previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff.
