The Barbados Secondary Teachers Union is joining national calls for children ages 12 to 18 to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
President Mary-Ann Redman is convinced it’s the only way to create a safe, face to face learning environment in local schools.
At present, 114 students are in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19 and Ms. Redman says the evidence is there to show the Delta variant is a greater threat to children than other strains of the virus.
She reveals the uptake of the COVID-19 vaccines among teachers has been good so far.
However she warns if vaccine levels don’t improve soon, she doesn’t see a return to face to face classes in the near future.
