Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West Indies, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles is optimistic it’s possible the financial model of the UWI can be turned around in the next five years.
Once achieved, the University’s reliance on the public revenue will be significantly diminished.
According to Sir Hilary, UWI, through its own entrepreneurial activities, would generate more resources.
He shared the view as he delivered the Vice-Chancellor’s Report to the University Council.
Professor Beckles also expressed concern at the present macro economic conditions in the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of the Bahamas and Chairman of CARICOM, Philip Davis says UWI, despite weathering many storms, is committed to development of Caribbean nationals.
