Barbados and countries in the region have been advised to address care as a human right and social responsibility, as they move towards a stronger and fairer society in the post-pandemic recovery.
The message was conveyed by the Director of the Pan American Health Organisation, Dr. Jarbas Barbosa, on the occasion of Wellness Week of the Americas 2023, celebrated from September 9th to 15th.
Wellness Week opened with a launch event in Colombia on Monday, focusing on the importance of care, as well as a discussion on the main challenges to better health and wellness.
Dr. Barbosa wants players at all levels to take an active role in improving care systems.
Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency, CARPHA, Dr. Joy St. John says the PAHO Wellness Week comes after countries in the region observed Caribbean Wellness Day on Saturday.
She welcomes the focus placed on wellness in the region.
