January 25, 2024

A large-scale wind farm, expected to be running within three years, is up for private sector investment, a part of Government’s push for Barbados to be using energy mainly from clean sources within the next six years.

The wind farm, to be located at Lamberts in St. Lucy, is to produce between 30 to 50 megawatts of power.

The International Finance Corporation is leading the process of selecting an investor for the public-private partnership or PPP that needs approximately 80 million dollars funding.

Alfonso Garcia Mora, Vice President of the International Finance Corporation with responsibility for Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean has told CBC News in an exclusive, Barbados is ripe for investment.

Mr. Garcia Mora notes the cost of electricity to consumers, with the inclusion of this renewable energy source into the island’s energy mix, would be competitive.

The regional Vice President with the private sector arm of the World Bank says the investment will be chosen through bids.
