Barbados has put the plight of small island developing states (SIDS) and that of CARICOM states in the spotlight at the first meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the 4th International Conference on SIDS.
The Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations, Francois Jackman told the forum countries in the Caribbean are facing a deepening debt crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent crises.
He is however upbeat with discussions taking place on the creation of a multi-dimensional vulnerability index and the Bridgetown Initiative as these two can lend support to the unlocking of much needed finance for SIDS.
