Prime Minister Mia Mottley has called for a global conversation on reparations, for countries whose people were enslaved under colonial rule.
Delivering a lecture at the London School of Economics she revealed trillions of dollars in reparations are owed by slave-owning nations.
She told those gathered the conspiracy of silence has diminished the horror of what people faced.
Ms. Mottley has welcomed comments made by Britain’s King Charles while on a trip to Rwanda last year.
He stated the time has come to acknowledge the impact of slavery.
Ms. Mottley says however admits conversations over how this debt should be repaid will be difficult and will take time.
Ms. Mottley has also called out acts of racism which she says continue to be allowed in the world.
