Barbadians are being assured the public/private partnership (PPP) deal for the investment in, development and operation of the Grantley Adams International Airport is the best arrangement for the country.

Special Envoy to the Prime Minister on Investment and Financial Services, Professor Avinash Persaud says it is not unique to Barbados, pointing out such investments have been made in other airports across the world.

Professor Persaud was a panellist at a town hall meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to discuss the memorandum of understanding signed between GAIA Incorporated and a Dubai-based consortium.

He says a Heads of Term Agreement has already been negotiated and they are currently negotiating a concessionary arrangement.

Meanwhile Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill says meetings have been held with the respective trade unions, operators and concessionaires at the Airport regarding the MOU.

He says the management of the GAIA has also been meeting with its workers to update them on the plans.

Mr. Gooding-Edghill reiterated the Grantley Adams International Airport is not for sale. He says the investment in the Airport is needed at this time.
