There’s reaction to suggestions in some quarters that children should be able to choose what drinks they want to consume, against the backdrop of the Schools’ Nutrition Policy.
Consultant Pediatrician and Lead Policy Champion of the Barbados Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition Professor Anne St. John disagrees.
She says the Coalition is encouraged by the fact that the Schools’ Nutrition Policy was launched and implemented by the Ministry of Education at the start of Term Three.
Professor St. John adds that giving children the option could only serve to make the battle against childhood obesity far more difficult.
