The traumatic life experiences of a number of sex offenders often act as triggers for their crimes. That’s according to Acting Chief Probation Officer, Denise Agard.
She revealed when the Probation Department conducts reports on these individuals, a lot more comes to light. In relation to the demographic of the offenders, it’s predominantly men.
To address the case backlog and dealing with the offenders, the Probation Service is in need of additional manpower.
The backlog was also addressed by the Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, who says they are doing their best.
The Minister and Ms. Agard were both speaking on the sidelines of a four-day summit on the Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Sex Offenders into the Society at the Radisson Hotel.
Probation officers from Barbados and others in the legal system were part of the training sessions.
