Protest erupts over environmental conditions

Teachers at St. John Primary School took action again today in protest of the environmental conditions and so too did the parents as no children were on the compound.

The Parent Teachers Association made a decision on the matter and the Barbados Union of Teachers visited the staff and the Parent Teacher Association also spoke out about the issue which came to a head last Friday.

The issue was highlighted months ago but nothing was done.

President Nicole Gill-Wilson says last Friday the teachers remained outside the classroom and they did today as well and they are awaiting some correspondence from the Ministry about what is to happen at the school going forward.

The First Vice President of the B.U.T Julian Pierre who is also Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee says the staff, teaching and otherwise are fed up with the environmental conditions and the union believes it’s sick school syndrome.

He says the issues range from mould to inadequate cleaning.

The Ministry of Education says their investigations into the matter are ongoing.
