Push for affordable housing

The Estates at St. George – initially a senior citizens retirement community project has been identified as an initiative Barbados has to replicate in other areas, given that Barbadians are living longer.

The suggestion was put forward by Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Dwight Sutherland as he contributed to the debate on a resolution to approve the Barbados Physical Development Plan.

Mr. Sutherland says the housing options introduced by Government are policy-driven to push affordable housing ownership.

While most of the land allocated for housing in the rural corridor, Mr. Sutherland sees housing as the key to a vibrant city.
