The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is refuting what it calls baseless allegations suggesting a higher than usual number of dialysis patients have met their demise in recent days.
The message making the rounds on social media, indicates their deaths have been caused by a number of non-working dialysis machines.
In a statement, the Hospital said the Acute Kidney Unit also known as the Dialysis Unit, caters to 66 patients with end-stage renal disease requiring life-saving hemodialysis, 6 days per week.
It explained the Unit has 24 working dialysis machines, twenty-two of which are in use daily, while the other 2 are back-up machines and are ready for immediate use should the need arise.
According to the release, there has been no need for the back-up machines to be used in recent times, as there have been zero machine failures.
Additionally, it says for the month of June, laboratory tests show no evidence of contamination within the Department.
Management has also confirmed that for 2023, all scheduled regular and deep cleanings have been executed in full and on time.
