There has been a reduction in the seating capacity for the new National Stadium, which will be built on the same site of the old Stadium at Waterford, St. Michael.
It was announced earlier that the facility will have a seating capacity of 10,000. However, in providing an update during the Estimates Debate, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Charles Griffith says the number has been adjusted to 8000 seats.
He says officials are working to ensure the National Stadium is built out in the fullest way.
Meantime, 13 mini stadiums are currently being constructed across Barbados.
Among the areas that will be home to such facilities are Briar Hall, Gall Hill, Friendship and Greens.
In providing an update, Acting Director of Sports at the National Sports Council, Emerson Bascombe, says five are at a stage where they are awaiting the installation of the bleachers and the others are at various stages of completion.
