Reparations movement gaining momentum

August 1, 2023

The reparations movement is gaining momentum.

Chairman of the Barbados Reparations Task Force and Special Envoy in the Prime Minister’s Office Trevor Prescod told CBC News the just concluded Study Tour on Reparations and Racial Healing has strengthened the movement.

He says groups in Latin America and further afield are also developed and are poised to be part of a global meeting next year.

Mr. Prescod’s comments come as Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley hosts a Roundtable on Emancipation at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

It will reflect on the role of Emancipation in shaping the contemporary Caribbean and African experiences.

It will also explore new strategies for addressing our current developmental challenges, and forms a key part of the Caribbean’s ongoing discussions on reparatory justice.

Mr. Prescod also told the CBC News an outreach programme will be rolled out in the coming weeks aimed at sensitising all Barbadians on reparations.
