Schoolboy sustains serious head injuries

March 11, 2024

A schoolboy has been left with serious head injuries after intervening in an apparent case of bullying.

In a release, the Ministry of Education, Technical and Vocational Training says the fifth-form student was rushed to a nearby polyclinic but was subsequently transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance due to complications.

The student is still being monitored at the hospital at this time.

The Ministry says the incident happened off campus yesterday around 2:00 p.m. in the Six Roads area, after students had been dismissed early due to the negative impact of smoke emanating from a nearby location.

Several school officials and Police went to the scene, where two male students were identified as the attackers.

The Ministry awaits further updates on the condition of the student and joins the nation in appealing for an end to the pockets of violence rearing its head among the school population.

Meanwhile, the school’s Board of Management, the Ministry and the police will continue to investigate and will make the appropriate decision regarding the fate of the two male students.

Classes at the school are due to resume today.
