Season of Emancipation launched

For 2023, the Season of Emancipation is going to be different.

That’s the word from Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight.

She was speaking at the Season of Emancipation media launch at Ilaro Court.

The season will run from April 14 to August 27 under the theme “Reimagining the Past, Celebrating the Future”.

A number of events and projects are planned, among them a National Heroes Day community volunteer project, an Africa Day Story Hour: Under the Casuarina Tree and an Emancipation Day procession to name a few.

Crop Over remains a signature festival within the season.

National Cultural Foundation CEO Carol Roberts-Reifer shared some of the major plans for the Festival.

One of the biggest changes relates to the Soca Monarch competition.

The NCF met with major industry stakeholders and agreed that this year there will be no Soca Monarch.
