Sharon Darlington passes away

March 31st, 2022

Barbados has lost another one of its song birds.

CBC understands that Sharon Darlington passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital today after a two year battle with cervical cancer.

She was one of the island’s entertainers who came through the Richard Stoute Teen Talent competition, making her mark in 1990. Over the years, she performed with a variety of bands, including Krosfyah, Virtuosity, and Inner Soul. She also had a stint on Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

Close friend, Marissa Daniel described Sharon as a fiery spirit who was happiest when she was performing.

She also said the 49 year old former St. James Secondary student was creative and artistic, doing everything from creating many of her costumes for stage to baking.

Ms. Daniel said Sharon was a private person but very loving to those closest to her.

Another friend, Kathy-Ann Charles, said they met in the 1990 competition and remained close ever since.

Ms. Charles said when she visited Sharon in hospital on Sunday, they sang one of their favourites “You Bring Me Joy” by Anita Baker.

In 2020, a number of local entertainers hosted a benefit concert in Sharon’s honour. She was seeking to raise funds for treatment overseas.

Sharon is survived by her son, Akil.
