Shooting victims identified

The deceased in today’s shooting in New Orleans, St. Michael has been formally identified by Police.

He is 56 year old Merton Patrick Hinds, also known as ‘Popeye’, who lived in the area.

Police PRO Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss says the incident was reported to the Operations Control Room around 9:30.

Hinds received injuries to his chest and back and was transported by private vehicle to the QEH, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Police have also identified the man who was injured in a separate shooting, which occurred around 10:10 this morning.

They say he is 23 year old Rakeesh Grant of Fairfield Main Road, Black Rock.

A motorcyclist along with a pillion passenger reportedly rode through an area between Waterhall Land and Hill Road, St. Michael, and discharged a number of shots before riding away.

Grant was injured as a result, and was transported to the QEH by ambulance for medical treatment.

Police investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
