On Monday, before Government announced that consumers can buy many retail goods on Wednesday without paying the 17.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on them, shoppers appeared to be cautious this Christmas.
Retailers were telling the Business Report trade was improving as people bought ham, chicken and personal items.
