There is concern that some operators under the Transport Augmentation Programme or TAP are charging people based on the number of packages they take on board.

According to Chief Operations Officer of the Transport Board Lynda Holder the issue was raised at a recent Parish Speaks meeting with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.

Ms. Holder says the practice is against the rules of the Transport Board and has prompted it to tell commuters to know their rights.

She also insists people over the age of 65 years old and school children in uniform are exempt from paying bus fare on board TAP vehicles.

The TAP programme consists of subcontractors used by the Transport Board who are expected to operate under its policies and procedures.

Ms. Holder stresses this also includes allowing members of the Barbados Police Service along with staff of the Transport Board to ride free of charge on the vehicles, once they produce the relevant identification.
