Barbados has welcomed the decision by the United Nations Security Council to approve sending a multinational force to Haiti.
With 13 votes in favour, the Security Council rubber-stamped the one year, non-UN Force led by Kenya which involves 1000 security personnel.
Both Russia and China abstained, allowing the measure to pass.
Barbados and several CARICOM member states along with other nations will be providing personnel.
The mission was authorised under the use of force provision of the UN Charter.
Ambassador to CARICOM David Comissiong says the resolution is important.
Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett says her country aligns itself with CARICOM and welcomes the tireless efforts in bringing the resolution.
She wants support to continue once the mission has achieved its goals.
