Labour Minister Colin Jordan says last week’s fatal accident at a construction site in St. James should be a wake-up call for everyone and a reminder of the importance of workplace safety protocols.
While extending condolences to the family of the deceased, he said both workers and employers have a role to play in ensuring workplaces are safe.
Last monday, 51-year-old Andell McGarrel, a Guyanese national and resident of Barbados, was one of two men who fell from the scaffolding, which was said to be approximately 30 to 40 feet high.
He died on the spot being impaled on a piece of steel.
