A Barbados water prohibition will be in effect come next week.
This is a proactive effort by Government to conserve water, following data collected by the Barbados Water Authority projecting major challenges with meeting the demand for potable water, given a 40% decrease in rainfall and current drought conditions
The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw this morning during a media conference.
She is making it clear Barbados is not currently in crisis but is putting measures in place to conserve the island’s water resources.
The penalty for failure to comply with the prohibition is $500 or 1 month in prison.
