Jamaica: communities placed under curfew after deadly violence

June 15th, 2022

Several communities in St. Catherine, Jamaica have been placed under a 48 hour curfew following deadly violence which has claimed the lives of 3 people and left several others nursing injuries.

Law enforcement officials say the deaths of the 3 men were linked to an internal feud in the One Order Gang, which is based in the parish.

Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson promised to “settle” the violence, adding that a variety of operational activities are now underway to boost security in affected areas and apprehend the gunmen.

An unknown number of people have been hospitalised as a result of the violence, and media reports are that residents, vendors and shoppers were sent scurrying while businesses closed their doors as gunmen attacked in the market district.
