Met Office tracking two weather systems

June 19, 2023

The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to monitor a tropical wave in the central Atlantic as well as an area of disturbed weather in the eastern Atlantic.

During the night the tropical wave located in the central Atlantic has been getting better organized and convection has been more sustainable and holding together closer to the center. Conditions will continue to improve for further development as the day progresses and a tropical depression is more than likely to develop sometime today.

There is still some considerable spread in Model guidance on the forecast track with some of the guidance bringing the system through the Northern Windwards/Southern Leewards later this week around Thursday. The system has been tracking slightly north of west at 15 to 20 mph over the past 24 hours and this general motion is expected to continue over the next few days.

The MET Office also gave information on the current situation on another area of disturbed weather centred near 9N 24W and stated that disorganized showers associated with the area of interest in the far eastern Atlantic are closely being monitored.

Environmental conditions are expected to be marginally conducive for the slow development of this system later this week as the system tracks westward at 10 to 15mph behind the area of disturbed weather currently located along 38W.

There are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados and the public is urged to continue
monitoring the updates from the BMS along with postings by GIS and DEM, due to the location within the Central Atlantic.

The next update will be at 2:00 p.m. today, Monday, June 19, 2023 or sooner if the system is upgraded to a tropical depression.
