Barbados is expected to have a contingent of approximately eight athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris this summer the same number that represented this country at Tokyo 2020.
That’s the word from Vice President of the Barbados Olympic Association, Cammie Burke.
In an interview with CBC Sports, Burke says only 400-meter world championship bronze medalist Sade Williams has qualified so far for the global showpiece set for July 26 to August 11, but there are opportunities for other athletes to meet the Olympic standard in the coming months.
At the last Olympics, Barbados had representation in track and field with six athletes: Mario Burke, Jonathan Jones, Shane Brathwaite, Tristan Evelyn, Tia-Adana Belle and Sada Willams.
In swimming Alex Sobers and Danielle Titus also made the cut.
Additionally, Barbados’ brightest star in the boxing ring – Jabali Breedy – is hoping to earn his spot along with top female surfer Chelsea Ttuach.
